Music Therapy at Rye Community Primary School

Music Therapy sessions are now happening in school.   Liz Butt who is registered with the Health Professions Council and is a fully qualified Music Therapist is in school on a Tuesday.  These music therapy sessions are for those children who find that for one reason or another they cannot make full use of the learning opportunities at school.  Liz offers support through making a relationship through playing musical instruments, then working on the child’s difficulties.  This can help the child communicate and express their problems in a safe and non-confrontational way through music.

Music Therapy is funded by Jessie's Fund and the Otakar Kraus Music Trust.  Liz is always looking for further funding and ideas would be much appreciated.

Liz also offers staff ‘taster’ sessions to enable them to learn more about the processes involved in music therapy.  She is very willing to see parents/carers too to talk about possibilities for their child.

Rye Community Primary School is unique in East Sussex in being able to offer this service and we are especially grateful to the East Sussex Music Service for the loan of some wonderful new instruments.  These are housed in our music room where Liz holds the sessions.

Liz is in school on Tuesday mornings and can be contacted there.

Have you got any Fundraising ideas?   This could be a boot sale to clear out unwanted gifts/goods, a coffee morning, a sponsored swim, bathing in baked beans or any other ideas!  We need your support to keep the Music Therapy service running.
