Dear Parents

Staffing

As most of you will know, Rodney Booth, our caretaker, has been ill for sometime.  This has resulted in Rodney retiring from his post here at school.  We will all miss him, and I am sure you will join us in wishing him well in the future.  Rodney will still be a regular school visitor as he often collects his grandchildren from school.

Sarah Harris, one of our Assistant Headteachers, has resigned from her post in order to spend more time with her young family.  This change will take effect after Easter.  Whilst she will be a loss to the leadership team, we are pleased to confirm that she will continue to teach Y6 within the school.

Emergency School Closure

You will all have received a letter prior to Christmas regarding the procedure should we need to close the school due to adverse weather conditions.  Whilst every effort is made not to close, the majority of our staff live in Hastings and Kent, so although conditions may not be too bad in Rye, staff may have problems getting into school.  Notification of a closure can be heard on Heart FM (102.4FM) or on the school page on www.eastsussex.gov.uk/educationandlearning/schools/schoolclosures

Volunteer Gardeners

We need volunteer parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles who would like to come along and help with our allotment.  The area has been rotivated, so it is now just a case of digging over and planting.  If you would like get involved, please contact the school office.

Spare Socks

The KS1 classes are desperate for spare socks for children who have little accidents during the day.  If you have any, please could you send them in to your child’s class teacher.

Sainsbury’s Tokens

Sainsburys are starting their token scheme again from 17th February.  So please get Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and friends to collect the vouchers for your child to bring into school.  This year we will be collecting for cooking equipment.  Every voucher is valuable as we can get a baking tin for as little as 34 vouchers right up to a stainless steel blender for 771 vouchers.

Guinea Pigs

Would you like to give a home to two friendly six month old guinea pigs?  They are free to a good home, and come with a new hutch.  For further information, please see Sue Ball in the school office.

Rye Rugby Club

Rye Rugby Club are holding an open morning on Sunday 28th February at 10.00a.m., which is open to children aged 6 and upwards.  If your child is interested, go along and find out all about the Club.

Tilling Green Residents Association

The Tilling Green Residents Association have recently reformed, and they are inviting everyone from Tilling Green to join in a ‘litter pick’ around the estate.  This is taking place on Saturday 20th February, meeting outside the chops at 11.00a.m.  Everyone is welcome including children.  High visibility vests and pickers will be provided, as will refreshments for helpers.
