I have been working for Sussex Police as a Police Community Support officer for nearly 5 years, and have covered the Rye area, including Rye Harbour, Rye Town, Playden, Camber, Iden, The job role is a very rewarding one, with lots of challenging and enjoyable jobs, you never know what is round the corner.  I love working alongside the local schools, supporting the work done by the fantastic staff and support staff, each with their own special job roles and objective.  My role in the school is a varied one, from listening to children on one of my weekly visits, or giving presentations and taking assemblies on many different related issues such as bullying, staying safe, looking after each other, personal property, as well as providing information about cycle marking, clubs and events.  

 As well as the above I also do the following: 

  • Visit the school at break times and patrol the playground to speak to children and be a visible and approachable presence.
  • Run cycling proficiency courses with Mike Cooper from ESCC
  • Help on school trips
  • Supporting the Neighbourhood Schools Officer PC Taberer
  • Speak to children out and about away from school, making sure they are safe.
  • Be available to parents to discuss and concerns or problems they may have,
  • Travel on school buses from time to time for Rye Community Primary, but also other school buses from local primary schools and Rye College.

Bullying – If you believe your child is experiencing problems with another child or children at school, contact the school and make an appointment with their class teacher or the head teacher as soon as possible to discuss the situation, often these situations can be resolved quickly through mediation and talking to the children before the situation gets any worse.
